Already Siddhartha knew how to pronounce Om silently—this word of words, to say it inwardly with the intake of breath,when breathing out with all his soul. Already he knew how to recognize Atman within the depth of his being,indestructible,at one with the universe. すでにしてシッダールタは、ことばの中のことばなる「オーム」を、吸う息とともに、声を出さずに自分の中に向かって言い、吐く息とともに、声を出さずに自分の中から外に向って言うことができた。 すでにして彼は、自己の本性の内部に、破壊しがたく、宇宙と一体となるアートマン（真我）を知ることができた。

This man, this Buddha,was truly a holy man to his fingertips. His unfathomable face expressed complete equanimity. この人、この仏陀は小指の動きに至るまで真実だった。 この人は神聖だった。 その探り知れぬ顔はじっと完全な平静さに輝いていた。

He wished passionately for oblivion, to be at rest, to be dead. He loocked down into the green water which flowed beneath him,and was completely filled with a desire to let himself go and be submerged in the water. 自分のことはもう忘れたい、安息を得たい、死にたい、と彼は切望した。 足下をおやみなく流れる水をのぞきこんでいるうちに、この水の中に沈んでしまいたいという願いにすっかり満たされているのを感じた。

After a time, Kamala found that she was with child as a result of her last meeting with Siddhartha. しばらくたってカマーラは、シッダールタとの最後の歓会のとき身ごもったことを知った。

"I am going to the woods; I am going into the unity of all things," said Vasudeva, radiant. And so he went away. With great joy and gravity he watched him, saw his steps full of peace, his face glowing, his form full of light. 「私は森の中へ入る。統一の中へ入る」 ヴァズデーヴァは光を放ちながら去った。 シッダールタは、深い喜びをもって、深い真剣さをもって彼を見送った。 その歩みが平和に満ち、その頭が輝きに満ち、 その姿が光に満ちているのを見た。
